Deceptive Billing Practises When I purchased a business hosting plan with unlimited (ie. FREE) web domains nearly 10 yrs ago, I felt it was a good deal. I auto renewed my domains under the hosting plan and continued this way for some time. However after a number of years I realized the value I was getting for the money was not equal to what other services were providing so I started to slowly migrate my services away from Netfirms. This spring, I began working on preparing the final migration of my last two domains that are actively hosted on the platform. Turned all the domains to manual bill and rec'd auth codes to transfer them elsewhere. Rec'd email confirmations of this from Netfirms and even a email reminder that my domains would expire if I didn't take immediate action. This happened on May 3 2021. Unbeknownst to me, on May 13, 2021 Netfirms billed me for hosting while having ZERO domains under their platform!! Let me repeat...I had ZERO domains under my profile and the last two that I transferred out were acquired free under the hosting plan. I never paid extra for those domains to renew annually as they were tied to the hosting. Their deceptive billing knowing that I had zero domains to host on their platform triggered a negative balance with Paypal, which is how I had my billing set up. Eventually this caused my Paypal account to be locked as I wasn't aware of this outstanding payment as I believed my services ported out. When I brought the matter up to Netfirms asking for full refund/partial credit for the time remaining, in true fashion they tried to blame ME for not calling them to cancel the hosting plan!!! WTF? What is a backend self-service portal for?? If I move a domain which is directly associated to the hosting plan, then that should trigger the hosting plan to also stop or at least some sort of email communication that my hosting plan would be disrupted. But that must be too hard to implement or at least show some level of customer service or care...Then they tried to say that I had 30 days for a money-backed guarantee had I called about this sooner...yah right. Oh, and to actually locate the screen where you can cancel your subscription is buried so deep without any direct /accessible link proves that they want to make it extremely difficult for you to cancel. When you select the immediate cancellation option, coincidentally no where does it say your billing will also stop immediately. 10+ yrs loyalty and this is what you get. Stay away from them. not worth the headache and they are too damn expensive compared to what you can get elsewhere.
