That's it, I've had it I wish I could give them zero stars. I've had Powweb for 10 years and it was great at first. However, their service has steadily been going downhill and now I'm just done with them. I paid for premium support and it took forever to get them to stop charging me. Since then, there's been pretty much no support. Sure, I can call them or use the live chat, but the chat is a long wait, keeps disconnecting, and there's no longer a ticket system. I have so many issues now, there's no effing way to do it without a ticket system. Even when I'm on really nice campus internet, the speeds to all my Powweb sites are molasses and filled with disconnects. That's making downloading my files for backup and editing nameservers and other settings on my domains so slow I want to cry sometimes. God help you if you do anything in your control panel while logged into an FTP client because one or both will time out.
I have two domains that have been pending verification for months now. No matter how many times I have the verification email re-sent, it either never comes at all or it does come but following through with the verification does nothing. They also reset the custom error pages setting to default non-custom with ads, so any miss-typed directory results in what looks like garbage parked spam site that my browser keeps warning is full of malware. Their domain registration prices are cheap, but then they more than double the price upon renewal. Transferring my domains to a new host is going to be a nightmare. I know, I've tried to do it before. Want to remove domains registered elsewhere? Errors upon errors. Also, apparently Dotster, the domain registration service, is one of Powweb's sister sites and oh boy, do things go wrong weirdly when trying to add a Dotster-registered domain to a Powweb hosting account.
I tried to manually install Concrete5 today because Mojo Marketplace (see below) kept failing the install, even after I updated my server's PHP. As far as I can tell, everything went fine except one tiny little setting in my SQL database. It's an easy fix. Except I can't actually log into it from the MySQL page from the control panel, it throws a 404. Are you kidding me? The database login link throws a 404?
You know what else throws a 404? The site backups and restore page from the control panel. You know, the very critical function every webhost should have? I have lost track of just how many different control panel/OPS functions throw 404s. Their knowledgebase has been throwing 404s for so long, that's why I paid for premium support in the first place. It was easier than moving everything because of just how many sites I have and how I need them to stay up. But it's beyond that now. It's far easier to spend a couple weeks transferring everything or even recreating them by hand than this crap.
And remember when they used to have a neat little MySQL tool to install databases and scripts? And it worked? I miss those days. I even miss SimpleScripts. The Mojo Marketplace they replaced it with is utter garbage. I can't log in to ANY of my installs anymore, even the installs I did through Mojo Marketplace. I just get a 404, but not even a 404 on my own site; I'm redirected to Mojo Marketplace's 404 page. On my own URL! My own URL's login page, which is literally a php file I can SEE in my directory listing in FTP. Navigating directly to the login file itself throws a 404. This happens over and over. I cannot admin my pages anymore because of this. And forget about updating any of that installed software on Mojo Marketplace. It consistently fails on the backup step. Sure, they let you skip that, but then you have to agree to hold them harmless if updating without backing up screws up your site. Except their backup throws a 404, so you can't actually back up at all. And if you proceed with the update, they always fail right at the start for unexplained json errors with no indicator of exactly what specific error it is. And even if it throws that error before the update really starts, your site is corrupted. And if you already have backups, you can't back it up because the restore doesn't work on Mojo OR Powweb!
I'm done with them. Completely and utterly done. Though with the trouble I went to trying to cancel the premium support service AND the trouble my partner went through trying to cancel his own hosting account, I'm probably in for a long road. In the end, the only way my partner got his account really and truly canceled was by changing his billing information to an old credit card that was no longer used. That's because they kept charging him long after he canceled, no matter how many times he called in.
